Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a procedure most commonly used for the treatment of pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratoses), but can also be used to treat acne, sebaceous hyperplasias, rosacea and sun-damaged skin. In the office, a topical solution is applied to the treatment site and one hour later this area is illuminated with visible spectrum light. Redness and/or swelling may occur for 1 – 7 days following the procedure. Post-treatment care involves strict sun and bright light avoidance for 48 hours.
